ID Cards
- Get your photo taken at the Bay Tree Bookstore. This is the photo that will appear on your UCSC Staff ID card. They are open from 9-5. Then take your ID to Al McGuire in Baskin (3d floor) between 1-3pm for activation. This card that will give you access to Engineering II and to the browser rooms on the fifth floor (515, 514, and 505).
- If activation of your photo ID key card is delayed for any reason, you can get a temporary ID key card from Baskin Engineering Building Room 217 that will give you access to the building and offices.
- You can get your paper UCSC Staff card (that you were given from HR on your first day of work) laminated at the Science or McHenry Library.
Parking, Busses, & Vanpools
- Get your parking permit and/or your scratch permit and/or all of your other parking and transportation needs satisfied at TAPS. The TAPS office is at the base of campus, just north of the Bay & High entrance. Carpools cost less tha a regular permit costs, split between the two of you. Bus passes are extra if you also have a parking permit. Sign up online at TAPS (http://www2.ucsc.edu/taps/application.html)
- There are two kinds of busses on campus: campus shuttles, and Santa Cruz Metro busses. The shuttle is free and you do not need to show any ID to ride. It goes in a loop around campus. The Metro is free if you have a metro pass (see bullet above), and you must show this pass every time you ride. These busses go to various neighborhoods off campus and end up eventually at the downtown Metro Center. Sign up online at TAPS (http://www2.ucsc.edu/taps/application.html)
- If you live outside of Santa Cruz, you might be interested in joining a vanpool for a small fee: http://www2.ucsc.edu/taps/vanpoolprogram.html
Printing, Copying & Wireless
- Instructions for configuring your computer to print: http://support.soe.ucsc.edu/printing
- The name of the printer in room 515 is “oops”.
- The name of the printer in room 505 is “barn”.
- There is a color printer in room 501 called "lollipop".
- The copier that you can use, for browser business, is located down the hall, just past room 599. You can get a copy card from Bob Kuhn.
- To set up wireless on your laptop: http://support.soe.ucsc.edu/soe-wpa
Office Supplies
- Generic office supplies are located in the small cabinet in the corner of room 515. You can take what you need from there. You can order anything else you need from through the Admins in the front office.
Telephone
There are shared phones in the CBSE office spaces. Ask Bob Kuhn for sharing policy. If you need your own phone, make a request to Danielle in the admin office. Campus phones share 459 prefix (area code 831). When dialing from campus phone to another campus phone 459-XXXX, just dial '9XXXX'. To call off-campus from campus phones, prefix with '6'.
Getting Paid
- You must complete a time card (online via CruzPay: http://cruzpay.ucsc.edu/) by the 1st day of the month.
- You will be paid on the first. If you want your paycheck to be deposited directly into your account, contact the Payroll Department down on Mission Street Extension (in the building next to where you had your HR introduction day).
- Your pay stub will be posted online a few days later here: https://atyourserviceonline.ucop.edu/ayso/

Computer Accounts, Email and Google Apps
- UCSC assigns you a user ID ('cruzid') for accessing campus web resources. There are two kinds of passwords -- a Blue and a Gold. You will need to set these passwords at this page: https://cruzid.ucsc.edu/idm/user/newUserPrompt.jsp
- The School of Engineering (SOE) computer account name may be different from the campus User ID. You should have been emailed an initial password for this account, and before using you will need to replace the password using this page: http://support.soe.ucsc.edu/. Once your password has been changed, email 'cluster-admin@soe.ucsc.edu' to request your CBSE computer account (include your supervisory manager's name).
- To set up your email: http://support.soe.ucsc.edu/e-mail
- Default email configuration uses the SOE zimbra.cse.ucsc.edu server accessed from an email client such as Thunderbird or Outlook. You can also access directly your email from the web using the Zimbra email interface. Click the 'web e-mail home page' link in the 'BSOE Web-Based E-Mail' section of the SOE email support page listed above. SOE is transitioning to google mail and you can switch to Gmail web client from zimbra. Contact Josh Homan and Eric Shell (as of Jan 2012) at SOE support to request this.
- If you don't want to have to check your slugmail (ucsc) account on a regular basis, you may want to forward to your SOE account.
